Two public officials who assaulted a feminist leader in the Alameda Central of Mexico City last Sunday were detained and presented to the Public Ministry. The Mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, informed about this and indicated that she had ordered an investigation to determine the responsibilities of all those involved. The aggression took place during an attempt to evict street vendors in the area, which triggered a confrontation between public road regulation officials and the merchants.
Images circulated on social media show how two men dressed in civilian clothes assaulted the transgender woman and then fled, despite the notable police presence in the area. The victim suffered a bruise on her eye and was taken to a hospital for medical attention. Although the auxiliary police assisted the victim and requested emergency services, they were unable to detain the attackers at the scene.
Subsequently, with the intervention of local authorities, the responsible individuals were identified and captured. The Attorney General's Office of Mexico City has initiated the corresponding investigations to clarify their legal situation. Mayor Clara Brugada condemned the assault and reaffirmed the local government's commitment to not tolerate violence and to guarantee the full exercise of human rights for all inhabitants of the city.
The mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, also expressed her condemnation of the violence and demanded justice for the victim. Additionally, the Secretariat of Citizen Security has begun an internal investigation to evaluate the actions of the police present during the incident, in order to determine possible omissions or failures in the police response.
After receiving medical attention, the victim chose to remain in the hospital voluntarily, despite having been discharged.
